Description

This Creamy Chicken Broccoli Orzo is a comforting one-pan meal that combines tender seared chicken with vibrant broccoli florets and creamy Parmesan-infused orzo pasta. Perfectly seasoned and cooked in a rich sauce, it’s a quick and delicious dish ideal for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 2 chicken breasts, cut into pieces
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Orzo and Vegetables

  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Creamy Sauce

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare and Sear Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Season the chicken pieces evenly with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken to the skillet and sear until golden brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Sauté Garlic and Cook Orzo: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in the orzo pasta and chicken broth, then bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until the orzo is almost tender, approximately 8-10 minutes.
  3. Add Broccoli and Cream Sauce: Add the fresh broccoli florets to the skillet. Pour in the heavy cream and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce becomes creamy and the broccoli is tender, about 5 minutes.
  4. Combine Chicken and Finish: Return the seared chicken pieces to the skillet, gently tossing to combine all ingredients evenly. Heat through for a minute or two to meld flavors.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the top. Serve warm for a hearty, creamy dinner.

Notes

  • For a lower-fat option, substitute the heavy cream with half-and-half or a light cream.
  • You can use frozen broccoli florets if fresh are unavailable; just add them a bit earlier to ensure proper cooking.
  • To enhance flavor, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes when sautéing the garlic.
  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for the best taste and melt.
  • Leftovers reheat well and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
