Ingredients
Scale
Breakfast Sausage
- 8 breakfast sausage links
Bread and Filling
- 8 slices of bread (white or whole wheat)
Egg Mixture
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Cooking
- 1 tablespoon butter (for cooking)
Instructions
- Cook the Sausage: Cook the sausage links according to package instructions, ensuring they are fully cooked through and browned. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Prepare the Bread: Remove the crusts from each slice of bread. Using a rolling pin, flatten each slice carefully to make it more pliable for rolling.
- Mix the Egg Batter: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until fully combined to create a flavorful French toast batter.
- Roll the Bread Around Sausage: Place one cooked sausage link onto a flattened slice of bread. Roll the bread tightly around the sausage. Secure with toothpicks if needed to keep the roll intact.
- Cook the Roll-Ups: Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Dip each roll-up in the egg mixture to coat thoroughly, then place in the skillet. Cook, turning carefully, until all sides are golden brown and the bread is cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Serve Warm: Remove the roll-ups from the skillet and let cool briefly. Serve warm with your favorite toppings such as syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit for a delicious breakfast treat.
Notes
- You can use either white or whole wheat bread depending on your preference.
- Removing crusts and flattening bread helps to easily roll and hold the sausage inside.
- Ensure sausage is fully cooked before rolling to avoid food safety issues.
- For extra sweetness, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle maple syrup when serving.
- To secure the rolls, use toothpicks if necessary, but remember to remove them before eating.
- This recipe can be doubled for larger groups and is easily reheated in a skillet or microwave.
